Maatla|Amandla|Maanda.

Maatla is a meditation on resistance. Maatla is a collection of chants which charge resistance, an invitation to dance to rouse the earth. Maatla is a veneration of the earth which our ancestors fought and died for, that we may meet our highest aspirations.

Maatla is a multi – media treat with cover art by Nico Phooko, word-sound-power and a notable line up of instrumentalists and vocalists. The music fuses elements of folk music, jazz and spoken word. Re roka mafoko. Stitching words together with drums, bows, and strings.

Kgafela oa Magogodi, writes, and leads vocals. Thulani Shabangu produces and plays the guitar, Bafana Ndhlovu plays the upright and double bass, Sibusiso Mkhize provides backing vocals and plays piano. Tebogo Tsotetsi, Ohentse Motlhanke and Gugu Ngwenya play percussion including the Marabele drum, serankure, setolotolo, djembe and talking drums to name a few. The band has collaborated with artists including Mabeleng Moholo, Lefifi Tladi, and Velaphi 'Blues' Mabaso.
